<div>If I were rating this only on the writing quality and the conclusions reached, I would maybe feel like this is more of a 3.5. (Also, talking about a time you called the cops on your own party? as a humorous aside, writing in 2020? really, dude?) But at the same time, I also love a good nostalgic analysis of music and what makes it work, and have even written things like that myself, so let's round up.<br><br>I learned more about soul songs and a few other things I was not so familiar with, but also appreciated most of the thoughts on the songs that I do know. That said, I have zero problem with Rhythm Nation 1814 being a perfect album, Questlove! Okay, okay, we all have our favorites, so I'm sure Control hit him at the right time, just like Rhythm Nation hit me. It's not for me to say, really, and that's how we all have to go into music books — it's just an opinion, and of course he has done the research and has the musical background to come to the conclusions he has. It's all fine! If we all agreed, art would be much more boring.<br><br>Still, this was definitely worth the read.</div>
