Rated A Good Man Is Hard to Find and Other Stories 8/10
O’Connor is, and writes about and from the perspective of, a white woman in the midcentury South, and these stories both critique that worldview and emerge from it, particularly regarding the Black characters.

The stories themselves remind me of George Saunders or Roald Dahl or even Miranda July - bleak and off-kilter, with the viewpoint characters justifying their peculiar actions to themselves and being surprised at the consequences.

I’d read the titular story several times since high school but the others are all new to me.
