Rated The Dragon Republic 8/10

Big and sprawly and mostly pretty engaging, although there are a lot of plot twists and layers of loyalty to keep track of and it slogs a little bit on all the twists and turns. (Also the protagonist is kind of a jerk but that’s more my problem than the book’s.) Definitely not complete unto itself but builds well on the world established in the first book and sets up the themes and stakes of the third effectively. A good series overall and recommended if you like big-scale military fantasy.
