Grim, absorbing short stories translated from Spanish. Enriquez, an Argentine writer, is fascinated with her country’s history of violence and repression and channels this unease into the stories- directly at times, but more often as mood and metaphor. Some of them are straight horror, but even those that aren’t are haunted, full of uncanniness and threat and disappearances. A good collection.
