Rated The Things They Carried 8/10

A mostly-wonderful story-suite about the author's unit in the Vietnam War, and their experiences before and after the war. Excellent, vivid prose; occasionally leans too hard into its theme of being about the process of writing and memory, but on the whole very insightful and well-told. Be forewarned that it's very visceral and intense, and also that it's very much of its time (or times) - a writer in 1990 telling us about a group of very young, mostly white men in the late 1960s, with the callousness and demeaning nature of war driving their language and attitudes. A tough read but a very good one.
