Rated The Guns of August 10/10

Wow.

The answer to the question "who lost World War I?" is "everyone." And the answer to "when and how" is contained within this book, which is a fantastic piece of explanatory history and just a great piece of writing. Tuchmann is merciless about the bad decisions that led to the war and the awful stalemate that it turned into. A bunch of 19th-century thinkers were unpleasantly surprised to discover that they were in the 20th century.

Highly highly recommend this book. It reads pretty fast for something so detailed and grim, and it's downright suspenseful for something that took place a century ago.
