Rated The Story of a New Name 10/10

Terrific. Compared to the first book in the series, this is much more of a standalone novel, and it reads faster and feels tighter. A few years in the life of two women who grew up poor together in Naples, Italy, but have grown apart emotionally even as their lives intertwine. The book deals with class divisions, abusive relationships, political turmoil and stifling social norms but it's all mediated through very concrete, vivid characters.
