Rated Alien: Romulus 7/10

This review may contain spoilers. Okay, yeah the fan service is a little excessive... There's like a 5% enjoyment penalty if you've ever seen Aliens and another 5-10% from the inclusion of the deepfake alone, which comes up so god damn often throughout the entire movie. I know it plays a key role as a main antagonist of the story and the intention was to make it authentic to cement Ian Holm's legacy, but every time it was on screen, it just took me out of the movie entirely to remind me that Ian Holm is dead. The music and cinematography including most of the full vfx shots are still fantastic, and the way the third act escalates as problems and solutions to problems compound on each other is so clever and exciting. It's just a damn shame that they nailed the hardest parts to get right and fumbled such easily foreseen issues.
