Rated The Happiness Hypothesis: Finding Modern Truth in Ancient Wisdom 6/10

Reading this book during the COVID-19 pandemic, I found the following passage particularly striking: "I realized that most of [the villains] share three properties: They are invisible (you can’t identify the evil one from appearance alone); their evil spreads by contagion, making it vital to protect impressionable young people from infection (for example from communist ideas, homosexual teachers, or stereotypes on television); and the villains can be defeated only if we all pull together as a team."<br><br>Overall: Compelling read, written in a wonderful story-telling fashion, with some interesting, applicable ideas to pick out and incorporate in your own life. In the formula the author uses to describe happiness (H), namely H = S(etpoint) + C(onditions) + V(oluntary activities), I feel the 'cold' scientific, biological should have been included. In the end of the day, we're just a bag of bones operated by chemical reactions - the influence of sunlight (vitamin D), a healthy dose of exercise and a nutritious diet are just as important to our happiness as are the variables used by Mr. Haidt.
