Some random thoughts while watching this: Real cognitive dissonance watching Chris Elliott try to play a serious role. If this were made in the 90's, the part of "Hippie" would have totally gone to Steve Buscemi. This was released mere months before the collapse of the Eastern Bloc and the Berlin wall. Odd to think about how close this was to the end of the cold war. I had considered James Cameron films as having pretty decent gender politics, especially for the time, but this one definitely lives on the edge. The "yelling at my bitch wife to keep her pantyhose on" just doesn't live up to the same standards that Ellen Ripley or Sarah Connor had set. Hard not to wonder how much more this movie would have ruled if the aliens hadn't been so hokey. James Cameron should be banned from putting blue aliens in any of his films.
