Rated Alien: Romulus 7/10

First off, this is absolutely a blast to watch, great Sunday matinee fare. Good fun if you don't think about it too much, but as hard as I might try, I can't quite put my Alien-snobbery 100% away for this one. I would absolutely love it if it were just a cool space creature movie, and not another entry in the Alien franchise, as some things don't really seem like they fit (like everyone being too young and pretty looking). I REALLY don't like the re-animation of Ian Holm's corpse for a role that could easily have been done just as well by another actor. All the reintroduction of Ash as Rook does is make you recoil in the wrong kind of horror every time you see him on screen. It's not all bad, though. I do really like the relationship they build between Rain and Andy, and I also like getting a view of what life is like for regular people in this universe. It still adds up to the most thrilling action/suspense film I've seen in years. It just highlights how desperate this franchise still is for some who actually gets it to come along and continue to build on it in a satisfying way.
