My only complaint about this book is that it is too long. It could have been edited down to be more concise, or it could have been split into two books. There is too much to focus on, too much to remember and too much to figure out. From the moment it starts off in the Mountain Kingdom, it goes at a breakneck pace. If you thought it would be an easy middle book, you are in for a huge surprise. It amps up the action and the emotional web the characters spin over the readers is impossible to escape from. Where Assassin's Apprentice enticed you in to Hobb's world, it was only the bait. Royal Assassin is the trap that will close around you and refuse to let you go. It is also one punch in the gut after another in terms of both plot and character developments.
