Rated Top Gun: Maverick 7/10

Pluses -Respectful nostalgia. There was no subversion, just a continuation with built-in characters, themes, and environments.  Including Iceman was the right thing to do and it was handled with care.  -Spot on tone. This felt like a Top Gun movie. It was like putting on an old shoe.  -Practical effects. Holy crap was this immersive!  Had they used CGI this movie could easily have been forgotten. Instead we get cinematic history being made.  Negatives -Recycled “one liners” from the original. Worse yet was the lines were said by characters that would have NO IDEA they were said before. Rooster was the worst offender.  -Some “eye rolling” cliched dialogue -Pete/Penny love story was a tangent, not part of the overall story.  -The mission stretches logic. It a recreation of the Star Wars trench battle on the Death Star.  -The absolute worst was how Pete /Rooster return after the mission. It made no sense to me and was full of coincidence and writing conveniences.
