This movie was entirely focused around Natalie Portman (Elizabeth) and Julianne Moore (Gracie). Gave me a "Single White Female" vibe, where Elizabeth would obsessively mimic Grace. While there was a mild element of that, the real story was being presented through Charles Melton's portrayal of Joe. THAT is where the real movie was. He was mourning his loss of youth and innocence. I saw it and I felt it. Portman & Moore put it solid performances, but their character's stories seemed secondary in comparison to Joe's. The whole movie had a bizarre made-for-TV feel to it that seemed partially intentional. The LOUD piano played during dramatic scenes was so over the top. The last conversation between Elizabeth and Gracie seemed shoehorned in to make it more mysterious. I think it was to prevent it from being predictable. All of this is to say there were some loose ends that needed tightening, but it still has plenty to say and kept me engaged thoughout.
