Rated Before the Devil Knows You're Dead 7/10

This is an acting masterclass taught by Phillip Seymour Hoffman. He takes the audience along for a harrowing emotional and ethical journey that no one is truly prepared to take. When he is lapping the rest of a stellar cast (Hawke, Tomei, Finney, Shannon, etc), you know he's on his A game. While "The Master" is probably his best performance, I would rank this one just as high. The story gets flimsy due its "...and then this happens" approach but it seems designed to be a series of dominoes that fall. Unfortunately, I wish it was told more elegantly. The positive from that approach is a lot of gritty acting performances. The negative is some plot holes and huge questions about what happens next to any of the characters.
