Enjoyed this movie, but while I do not have any real complaints, it did not resonate with me like I thought it would. It's not you, movie. It's me. The story is unique and meaningful. Colman Domingo deserves all the recognition for his portrayal of Divine G. You can tell the character has put an enormous weight on his own shoulders but recognizes the benefits to everyone when he relinquishes control. All the characters are robust since they are true to the real-life story. The ultimate sadness is that sadness is inevitable for prisoners. Some of the emotional beats of the story ended up falling short of their targets, but it did not make those events a negative. The pacing was slow but that can be expected in a non-prison break prison movie. Would still highly recommend. Wish it worked more for me.
