The right balance of lightly retelling history and preparing the future. I like the lived-in world, full of established characters. Superman the character did not feel like an out of touch boy scout. He was dynamic and as he says and shows, that he has a human side.  Plenty of Easter eggs to keep fan boys happy but not so many to lose the new audience.  If I had a complaint, it was the Superman seemed nerfed.  I realize that if he was overpowered then the character gets boring (see the last 2 movie versions). However, I needed him to show a little more dominance than what we saw.
