Rated A Complete Unknown 8/10

Followed my blueprint for a biopic, which is to focus on a specific, impactful time in the subject's life instead of trying to tell a life story in a couple of hours. Granted, this movie took liberties with my framework by focusing on 2 key moments in Bob Dylan's career: his rise to unwanted fame AND his transition from acoustic to electric. Both of these packages are expertly unwrapped. Not enough can be said about Ed Norton Jr's depiction of Pete Seegar who represents the conflict between "traditional" folk music and the exciting, unknown future that Bob Dylan is delivering. There is a palpable conflict within Pete that Norton displays perfectly. I must dock points for focusing on Sylvie Russo but not following through. The movie reduces her character to simply being jealous of Joan Baez, which undercuts her previous focus. Loved how each of the cameos enhance the story without distracting. The entire film made me understand how frustrating it was to be Bob Dylan at this time in his life.
