Rated The Sympathizer 9/10
A sharp, uncomfortable, brilliantly layered novel about identity, loyalty, exile, and the absurd violence of history. What I loved most is that it never lets anyone feel too morally clean. Everyone is compromised, everyone is performing, and the narrator’s split consciousness becomes more than a literary device — it becomes the whole condition of living between worlds.
It is political without being flat, funny without being light, and painful without begging for sympathy. The satire cuts deeply, but there is also real grief underneath it. A demanding book, but exactly the kind of demanding I respect.
