Rated The Dispossessed: An Ambiguous Utopia 9/10
Not the kind of sci-fi that gives you shiny spaceships and asks you to clap. The Dispossessed gives you two imperfect worlds, a stubborn man walking between them, and then quietly ruins your ability to pretend that our own world is somehow natural or inevitable.
I came for the political thought experiment. I stayed for the loneliness of someone who keeps crossing borders and slowly realizes that every idea of “home” comes with its own small cruelties.
It is dry in places, yes. A little severe. Sometimes almost too patient with itself. But honestly? So am I.
Le Guin writes freedom without making it pretty. Freedom here is not a slogan. It is work, hunger, language, pride, jealousy, bodies, rooms, walls, and the very human talent for ruining even our best ideas.
Not my softest read, but absolutely my kind of trouble.
