Rated Ordinary Beast 10/10

“Every thing aspires to one / degradation or another. I want / to learn how to make something / holy, then walk away."

"Let us roam the night together / in an attempt to catch the stars that drop."

This was hailed as one of the best poetry collections of the year and it did not disappoint. If you are looking for poetry that is more easily understandable while still being rather rigorous, pick this up.

From serious to playful. From reverent to snarky. From race to religion. This collection hits on so many topics in such a coherent way.

It has on of my favorite poems I actually read earlier this year, "the first person who will live to be one hundred and fifty years old has already been born" Google it.

It also contains "cento for the night i said, 'i love you're" which is a poem in which each line has been borrowed, cribbed, stollen, used from a bifferent poem into a new village of a poem. It would feel like she was simply showing off if it weren't such a fantastic and coherent poem.
