Rated Migration 6/10

This movie was honestly better than I was expecting. I really liked this movie. It was fun the whole way through and is definitely one of Illumination Entertainment's best films. To be fair, that is a low bar, but Despicable Me, Minions: The Rise of Gru, and Sing 2 are genuinely good movies, and I put it up in that tier. As I said: it's fun. Genuinely fun, and it's perfectly paced too. It starts out setting up the plot, and does so in a reasonable pace, but once the family decides to migrate, the story starts going faster, and just doesn't stop. It just keeps going. It doesn't stop, there is no room for breathing, and honestly: I think it's for the better. The film doesn't overstay its welcome, and ends at a perfect place. The stakes feel genuinely high as the main character's lives are literally at stake, something I was not expecting from an Illumination Entertainment film (though, maybe that happened in Secret Life of Pets or Hop, I don't know, because I never saw them). Definitely darker and with more emotional stakes than other films by this studio, but that's what makes this film so good. It feels like Illumination Entertainment, but a bit more grown up. That's a good thing. 3.5/5 = Pretty good
