Rated The Hunchback of Notre Dame 8/10

I wasn't sure what to expect going into this film. I knew its reputation for being a darker and more mature Disney film, and I didn't know if that should worry me or excite me. To understand me, I've never been the biggest Disney fan, always preferring DreamWorks, and my favorite Disney animated films have always been the ones that feel the least like Disney. So, as you can probably guess: I ended up loving this one due to it feeling less like Disney. It's a dark and haunting story with beautiful animation and some of Disney's beat songs (imo), even if I have a bit of a bad taste in my mouth from them using the g-slur to name the Roma people. Yes, I know that's what people called them at the time, but it still makes the film age more poorly than it otherwise would've. The characters are some of the best in any animated film, with Quasimodo immediately being among my favorite all-time protagonists and Frollo up near the top of my top antagonists list. I wish Disney made more films like this. I'd be a much bigger fan.
