Rated How to Train Your Dragon 8/10

There aren't many movies I would consider to be a masterpiece. This is one of the few I would. The animation is truly beautiful, even all this time later. Hiccup, the main character is different from everyone else and feels pressure to conform to what is expected out of the Vikings at Berk. He isn't strong, physically imposing, he isn't a killer. His dad and the whole village is embarrassed of him. He keeps trying to conform and consistently is a disaster at doing so. It really is brilliant at showing why forcing those who are different to conform to what's seen as the norm doesn't work, and how those who are different can change society for the better, which, as a trans and asexual woman, is a message I resonate with greatly. Watching Hiccup and Toothless have to learn to trust each other is beautiful. Watching Hiccup gain his confidence is one of the best scenes in the movie. We see pretty early that he doesn't have any real self-confidence, but the moment he throws his cheat sheet away while flying on Toothless, wow, that is one of my favorite moments in any movie, and the score really helps sell the moment. My god, John Powell. He truly created one of the greatest film scores of all-time in my opinion for this movie. Seriously, this movie is so good and is one of the biggest reasons why DreamWorks is my favorite animation studio. 4.5/5 = Masterpiece
