Rated The Terminator 6/10

Going into this movie I had no idea what to expect. All I knew of "The Terminator" franchise is that Arnold Schwarzenegger is in it and "hasta la vista, baby." What I got was a pleasant surprise. I was surprised that they made me care about the characters as much as they did (don't get me wrong, I was never completely invested in them, just decently invested in them) and that there was never a time I found the dialogue to be cringey. Sarah Conner was a very likeable character that was very easy to root for, you could always tell what she was feeling and thinking, and I wanted her to succeed, I wanted her to live. She wasn't some generic "damsel-in-distress," though she kind of came across that way for a bit in the movie, but she learned to do things on her own as the movie went on, which I'm glad for. The action scenes were well shot and the action was always easy to follow, and it was a very well-paced movie, I never found myself tuning out. Now, there are some problems, such as, I found it hard to completely care about Reese and his mission due to the fact that I feel that they didn't truly portray the direness of the future well, until near the very end of the movie when they show what's basically the slum they all live in. I definitely think that scene should have been at the beginning, to help the viewer truly understand the desperation, the poverty, and the direness of the situation better. As it stood up until then, it just never really clicked. Also, the abundance of what I call "movie logic," where characters continually do the dumbest things possible, like Sarah Conner running up near the fire that she thought the Terminator died in (like, seriously go the other way, don't risk it!) and her crawling instead of getting up on her feet to get away from the Terminator at the very end before she crushed him with the machine. Anyway, in the end, this was a decent action flick. Nothing amazing, but definitely solid. I definitely recommend this movie.
