Rated Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest 4/10
While I love the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, I never loved this movie. To be honest, I have never been able to truly explain why. Maybe one reason is that this movie feels like it's too long. It doesn't feel as if it should be as long as it is. Maybe it's because of how dark the movie is. I would argue that this is easily the darkest movie in the series and that it takes itself way too seriously. The first movie wasn't meant to be taken seriously. It was meant to be a fun romp that was kinda dark. This is a dark movie that tries to be serious. It has it's lighter moments sure, but they're mere moments and there's not many of them. So, I never enjoyed this movie all that much. On a less negative note, there are some things I really do enjoy about this movie. This movie contains my favorite action set pieces of the series. Especially the fight on the wheel. Easily my favorite movie fight of all-time. I also love how Elizabeth Swann gets more time to shine in this movie, as she really is arguably the best character in the series in my opinion. I felt like this is the movie where she really starts becoming a truly great character who is breaking out of her shell, finally becoming a pirate, making her own destiny. I also enjoy the film score. It's definitely nowhere as good as the first film's score by Klaus Badelt, but Hans Zimmer does a decent job taking up the mantle as composer. 2/5 = Kinda Bad
