Rated Star Trek Into Darkness 4/10

Why is Khan British now? That makes literally no sense. The timeline split didn't effect things from several hundred years ago, so there's no reason for Khan to be a pasty white English dude. Also, why is Kirk an idiot who doesn't listen to anybody? That's so outside of his character, even for this trilogy. He's supposed to be impulsive and emotional, but also a genius. Instead, in this movie they gave us an impulsive idiot. Also, man this was pretty low-stakes. This is Khan, the biggest baddie in Star Trek outside of The Borg. The stakes are supposed to be big. He's not Harry Mudd, yet it feels like the stakes are about what I would expect if there were to be a Star Trek movie with Harry Mudd as the villain. He's a bad guy who blew up HQ, then the Admiral sends Kirk out on a suicide mission that Kirk does by the book uncritically, and then the Admiral decides to try to kill the Enterprise crew. It's basically just a personal battle. Yes, the movie that this one was re-imagining, "The Wrath of Khan," was a personal battle, but it was more than just that. Khan was Kirk's biggest mistake coming back to bite him in the butt, and Khan would do literally anything to have revenge. To the point of using the ultimate weapon. This was a potential apocalypse waiting to happen in "The Wrath of Khan." Here it's just backroom politics turned bloody with some pretty low-stakes. The Enterprise crew are the only ones who are really in danger. They really didn't use Khan to his full potential. They focused on his physical strength in "Into Darkness," and really didn't show off his intellect which is supposed to rival Kirk's. The genius of "Wrath of Khan" was watching Kirk and Khan having to outwit each other. Also, what a horrid remake of the Spock death scene. Really? Make Kirk die this time? This felt so forced in and they changed it for the sole purpose of changing it. Also, Spock's "Khan" yell was laughable. Seriously, this movie sucked. Just watch the movie "Into Darkness" was re-imagining: "The Wrath of Khan."
