Rated The Addams Family 2 2/10
I love the first film of this series, that is, the 2019 Addams Family movie. It's genuinely one of my favorite movies of all-time, despite recognizing that it's nothing great (I only gave it a 3/5 here on Letterboxd after all, meaning "decent."). So, I was excited for this movie, and I don't get excited for all that many movies anymore. So, imagine my great disappointment from this movie. At no point did I feel that I was watching an Addams Family movie. I felt like I was watching some corporate, safe, whacky family road-trip that just happened to feature the Addams Family. It should have felt like a whacky, non-corporate Addams Family road-trip. I mean, seriously, ad placements? They legit had an advertisement for Progressive Insurance and Amazon Prime in this movie? The Addams Family listens to pop music and name drops celebrities? What the heck? Also, why is Gomez so out-of-character? He's not a clueless idiot and coward. Well, he's not supposed to be, but they portray him as one in this movie, like, there's no reason for him to be running from that lawyer. Just deal with him. Seriously. Especially when the lawyer keeps after you like that. This movie was so frustrating. I wanted to like this movie, I really did. I kept my hopes hope that maybe I could find a way to like this up until the Alamo scene when I finally realized that this movie wasn't good, and I finally realized this movie was beyond redemption after the Billie Eilish name drop. This was easily the most disappointing movie I have seen in a long time. 1.5/5 = pretty bad
