Rated The Greatest Showman 6/10
I honestly will never understand the hatred for this movie other than chalking it up to elitism. This is easily the most fun to watch musical I have ever seen. While I wouldn't consider it the best musical, or maybe even my favorite, it's definitely the most fun and most rewatchable. The music is catchy, easy to remember, fun to sing along with and full of uplifting messages. The dancing choreography is quite possibly the best I have seen in a musical, especially in "The Other Side." The choreography always earns awe from me. And, of course, the camera work, which is very important in a musical. So many editors and directors have no idea how to shoot a dance sequence (e.g., the most recent version of "Annie") but they nail it here. The camera is never too close to the character, providing enough distance to see what the character is actually doing, and when they're doing something really interesting with their feet, a quick cut to their feet. The camera always provides the dancers room to dance and for the audience to see what's going on. The story is actually pretty good as well, as I found myself quite invested in Barnum, rooting for him to finally learn to accept the love and care that has already been given and stop chasing after the elusive love of the snob, those who hate him. I also was rooting for the members of the circus to learn to truly accept themselves despite the hatred of them by society and to become unashamed of who they are. It's such an uplifting and fun movie, and one desperately needed especially during these times. 3.5/5 = Pretty good
