Rated Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales 8/10
I know this is blasphemy for many, but I think this is almost as good as "Curse of the Black Pearl." Somehow, they managed to recapture the magic of the first movie. It's fun. It's ridiculous. It's over the top. But it still delivers on great characters. Carina is a great new female lead who's strong, intelligent, and doesn't take other's crap, but is still feels like a real person you can root for. She doesn't feel like a poorly written feminist messaging device. She's feminist, but it doesn't feel forced in. She feels natural. Thank God for the series bringing it's focus back on the Turners. Henry is a great new addition as well, as he is single-mindedly focused on saving his dad, just as Will was for his dad. Thankfully, this time it won't end with Henry being cursed unlike Will who has to ferry the dead for the rest of eternity. Salazar is the second best villain in the series (behind Barbossa) and feels like an actual threat and is a genuine treat to watch. Far more interesting than Blackbeard ever was in the fourth movie. I'm glad to see Scrum and Marty back, and Mr. Gibbs doesn't feel forced in to this movie. The visuals can be breathtaking, especially when they make it to the island that is a reflection of the heavens. Thank god this movie has directors who actually have some creative vision with the camera unlike in the fourth movie. The score is kinda meh, to be honest. The story is thrilling. I love this movie. It's truly almost as good as the first. 4/5 = Very good
