Rated Sonic the Hedgehog 2 8/10

I haven't watched all that many movies this year. Honestly, just haven't felt like just sitting down and watching something that lasts 2+ hours. But, this was a film I knew I was going to do it for. I loved this film so much I did it twice in two days. Honestly, I really did enjoy almost everything about this movie. The humor (for the most part) was on point and the exact type I enjoy: zany and off-the-wall. Especially Jim Carrey. He just hams it up in this movie and I LOVE that. Him laughing just like the Grinch made my heart glad. I unironically consider watching him floss and say “later, hater” to be two of my favorite moments in the movie, specifically because they're so emblematic of how ridiculous the whole movie is. This version of Knuckles is frankly wonderful, and I love him so much and am ready for the spin-off TV series starring Knuckles that's coming out. I also liked the more serious moments. I enjoyed seeing Sonic grow up during this movie. We see him at the beginning being reckless and not caring about the safety of others, and not wanting to listen to reason. We also see him tell Tom he's not supposed to be his dad, but his friend. At the end, though, we see Sonic accept that he is a kid, he hasn't been responsible, and it's time for him to learn. We also see him accept Tom as his dad, which was so adorable and heartwarming to see. Now for some criticisms: look, there were many hilarious moments in the wedding scene (Rachel driving the golf cart, crashing it, and yelling “Randall, wifey's home!” had me dying), the film really did screech to a halt with that scene. Also, this is a kids' movie, why were those spa and manscaped jokes there? Those were needlessly inappropriate. Plus, once again I will ask: where is the rock music? Rock music, especially Crush 40 are just as important to the Sonic franchise as the Master Emerald is. We fans want rock. I'm just asking for a Crush 40 instrumental, not even asking for the vocals. Please. With Shadow the Hedgehog in the next film, that's the perfect opportunity to add rock. Anyway, that's all I really have to say about this movie. I give it a 4/5 = Very good.
