Rated Disenchanted 4/10
Yeah, this was a sequel that wasn't needed. The first movie was original, and a breath of fresh air as it was an intelligent deconstruction of the princess movie genre. This is just Wandavision with princesses. It wears its influences on its sleeves and just isn't that clever or interesting for the most part. The animated scenes are bad, like, really bad. It looks like stop-motion. The directing is poor too. The director really does not seem to understand how to direct a musical. So many weird and unnecessary edits, especially in the actual music scenes. The scene that immediately comes to mind is when Monroeville first becomes a fairy tale, when they're all dancing and singing together in the town square, the camera shot constantly changes every few seconds for no reason. It's distracting and many of those angles are just bad. That said, it wasn't all bad. The acting was top-notch, the actors were clearly into it and having fun. The dialogue could be very witty and funny at times. While most of the music was not memorable, the villain song wasn't bad, in fact, it was easily the most well put together part of the movie. To be honest, because of how much more memorable that song is, and how much better directed it is, it feels as if this was the very first thing they came up with when they came up with the idea of doing a sequel, and then made the rest of the movie to justify that song. In the end, I don't regret watching this by any means, but it's not one I'm too eager to see again. Definitely a step down from the original. 2.5/5 = Mediocre
