Rated Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom 4/10

Man. What a downgrade from the first. I thought the action was just as thrilling as the first movie, and I still love the characters, but wow. Everything else was a mess. The dialogue was absolutely terrible. It felt like early 2000s video game dialogue. No one talks like these characters talk in real life. That, and the CGI was pretty laughably bad. Here's the thing: I can overlook poor special effects if everything else is solid, but, the dialogue was bad enough that I'm going to hold poor CGI over this film's head. The other disappointing thing was how this movie went all in on being goofy. There were points it felt more like a Pirates of the Caribbean sequel than anything else. Especially on the volcano island. I literally said out loud during scene, "this is just a Pirates sequel". The first film nailed the balance between seriousness and joking around. This was almost all joking around, even in scenes that could've benefitted from being more serious. The stakes just never felt real because of how goofy the movie was. Anyway, this movie was the very definition of "mediocre".
